The Fight for New Jersey is Not Over Yet!

The Fight for New Jersey is Not Over Yet!

  • Joe Picarella

It is true that New Jersey passed two bills on Monday, January 13th which will effectively place a permanent ban on all flavored vape products in the Garden State.

However, the fight isn’t over just yet.

First, as of the time of this post being written, the bill still needs to be signed by the Governor before it can become an enacted law.

So we all need to be Tweeting him and contacting his office relentlessly to try to convince him to veto this bill and stop this unjust ban from happening.

You can Tweet him here: @GovMurphy

You can contact his office directly here: https://www.state.nj.us/governor/contact/

Second, even if he does sign this bill, we still have time to reverse it thanks to the relentless advocacy efforts of the vape community which allowed us to get a 90-day grace period added to the legislation.

This will give us 90 days from the time the governor signs the bill into law to absolutely bombard the politicians of New Jersey with Tweets, emails, and phone calls to try to convince them to change their minds. We know these tactics are effective as we have seen them work at the federal level.

This grace period will also provide a buffer during which the business owners of New Jersey can file lawsuits to try to make their case in a court of law.

And if you happen to think that New Jersey isn’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, then it should be noted that this state is the home of both Gregory Conley of the AVA as well as Tristan Thompson of the UVA. These two men and their respective organizations have done more for this industry and community than could possibly be written about in a single blog post and they deserve our support.

So, let’s start Tweeting and let’s start emailing. We may be down, but we are not out and New Jersey can still be won as long as we are willing to fight for it.
